Throughout the designing process, Hidegszoba studio delved into the definitive, visual, and abstract meanings of ornamentation. Their aim was to understand its potential interpretations and transliterations to Hungarian and other cultures. The studio found a natural bond in language and its recurring patterns, particularly in the trio of tales, superstitions, and sayings.
The centerpiece of the KALÁKA collection is a unique table that showcases the studio's innovative approach. Crafted using traditional woodworking techniques, the table features an oak tree puck in the middle, which doubles as a cutting board. The table also includes a hole and a large basket in the center, providing ample storage space for food or other items.
One of the standout features of the KALÁKA collection is the experimental series of plates. These plates have a charred base, reminiscent of open-air grilling and cooking on fire. By incorporating these elements, Hidegszoba studio pays homage to the central symbol of grain-based dietary - bread - and expresses their respect towards it.
The KALÁKA collection was born out of a university seminar on design but has evolved into a unique and individual collection. The designers, Adrienn Tillinger, Aliz Török, and Nelli Szabó, collaborated to create furniture pieces that not only serve their functional purpose but also encourage users to think about their surroundings and habits.
Hidegszoba studio's KALÁKA collection was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2015. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The collection's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world.
With its blend of tradition and innovation, the KALÁKA collection by Hidegszoba studio is a testament to the power of design to tell stories and create meaningful connections.
